Simon has painted elements of the Kalaya (Emu) story as it passes through Ilkurlka rockhole and heads towards Karnu. In between there is a very sacred place where evidence of Emu eggs and special substances are found in the country that must only be visited by senior men. Within this painting the red colour used throughout indicates the ‘sacred’ and powerful components of this Kalaya story that features so strongly throughout the Spinifex Area and in some elements provides a widely known and public story. To show the power and secret elements underneath that in fact colour and give real character to all the surrounding country Simon has painted the Wintalka, Wanarii, Puyu Wara and Tjurta trees so common in the area. Ilkurlka rockhole itself is shown towards the middle.
