Carlene was born at a large and spectacularly beautiful salt lake area called Tjitjiti.

In this painting Carlene focuses mainly on the three main elements of the landscape being the expansive salt lake itself, the huge sandhill surrounding the lake and the actual site of Tjitjiti represented by the round all in the middle.

The tjukurpa (ancestral story) at Tjitjiti tells of two women who were crossing the huge lake. Which them they had a child. The women were being followed by a man who called out to them to hand over the child.

Tjitjiti is a sacred place.
