Painting has always been a medium of transmitting culture, thereby strengthening the community. Stories and country belong to all the people and are tended by everyone, so it’s only natural that - particularly in Spinifex Country and the APY Lands - they all work together on one canvas.

An interesting fact is that even very famous artists with specifically characteristic styles of painting will defer to the aesthetics of the group project, thus giving the whole work an extra special coherence.

Often community projects are culturally significant works resulting from Back to Country trips during which the artists travel to their native country with its sacred places, renewing their bonds with their ancestors.
